The Age of UX, underpinned by a richer bedrock

Graeme Strange, our CEO, just blogged a delightful little entry based on an IT ‘recipe’:

Graeme’s ‘I reckon’ Space: The real secret recipe

I know exactly what he’s talking about too.  Within Readify‘s Dev Centre and at customer engagements, we’ve been using the latest round of Microsoft .NET technologies to build many things.  Rich clients, SaaS, Connected Systems, Differentiated Web Experiences – lots of buzzwords but put the technologies to work and it’s actually what you end up with.

It’s genuinely exciting to be able to aim high and still deliver – unlike the past when it was just an endless sea of development – and that’s just to achieve mediocrity.  For example, today you can take something like the AjaxControlToolkit and have an Accordian control implemented in under an hour.

Inside of Readify we’ve been able to put these technologies to good practice.  I saw Mitch build a knowledge component that allowed our entire organization to visualize our CRM Orders on a Virtual Earth canvas in under a week!  Having the right components is half of the puzzle, but having the right minds to use them in interesting and meaningful ways is the rest… which is exactly what Mitch did when he built his tool that was immediately embraced by our business and does it’s little bit to continue to build our culture.  Build tools with attitude and your culture will follow.

So what Graeme is getting at in his blog entry is the excitement in understanding that a modern business like ours, can take these technologies and frameworks to create lean processes that are tailor made to fit our unique business operations.  I know that being able to rapidly develop powerful, custom tools has given us a real edge when it comes to delivering against our key business drivers – such as identifying and recruiting great people!

And it’s great to know that our CEO obviously thinks that we are doing OK too 🙂
